Database Development and Data Collection
Databases are remarkable tools to store information for analysis. 3D Visions draws upon nearly two decades of working with a variety of database software. Relational databases offer a structure to data so that similar information is stored in a table, with systematic coding that is ideal for thematic mapping, querying, or building a variety of charts and graphs. A database may consist of dozens of related tables, frequently used queries, forms, reports, and thousands (or tens of thousands) of records. We've used databases to store information about people, buildings, land uses, and public improvements (such as curb ramps). We've helped our clients by building unique tools so that they could better understand their data.

Custom Software
Nearly a decade ago, we had the opportunity of developing a "user interface" for a start-up company's new software. We created custom characters, designed the screens that gave the "look" to the software, and worked with the software engineers on the sequence users followed. That program was CollegeEdge®, decision-assisting software for high school students. It became so successful that the company morphed into Embark, and then became part of the Princeton Review!

In 2000, 3D Visions invested in our first handheld computers. We decided to automate the collection of information about land and buildings. This work is classified into two types: GIS-based data collection with maps link to forms, and drawing-based data collection that annotates drawings with symbols linked to a database. The delivery platform options include PDAs (personal data assistant) or Tablet PCs running various versions of Windows operating systems.

Our custom software clients include the City of San Francisco's Redevelopment Agency, the City of Oakland's Public Works Agency(PWA) and Community and Economic Development Agency (CEDA), the City of San Rafael, and Architectural Resources Group.
